Bella’s Reunion with friends

Hello everyone.  This is Bella’s mom again with another little story in the life and sweet times of Bella.  As many of you know, if you read Bella’s story, that I adopted Bella in July of this year from the Iberia Parish Humane Society.  She was at the Humane Society when she got out of her pen and got hit by a car and lost her right rear leg.  After the accident, she was placed in a foster home while she recovered from her injury.  That’s where I first went to visit Bella and fell totally in love with her.  To cut the story down a little, last weekend was Bella’s first time to visit with her foster family since she came to live with me in July.  Cheryl and Mike, her foster mom and dad, met Bella and I at the dog park with their three pups, Sophie, T-George, and Emma.  Bella’s initial meeting with her three friends was one of total chaos and excitement with much tail-wagging and squealing going on.  It melted my heart to see how those four dogs interacted with one another with such excitement, recognition, camaraderie, and general fall all over themselves love for one another.  We were all so tangled up in dog leads we thought we were going to have to cut ourselves free.  Once we figured out which lead was attached to what dog, we removed ourselves from the tangled mess and proceeded to have the most wonderful time at the park.  Very often I would see Bella loving up on Cheryl and Mike as if to thank them for giving her a chance at having a good life.  All the while looking over at me as if to say, “I love you more, mom.”  It was very touching and only confirmed all the more why it is that I love that beautiful girl of mine.  While Mike and Cheryl gave her a wonderful new start, Bella surely knows that in my home she has a Life Worth Living, and she never stops telling me thank you.  Bella would like to close by reminding everyone to please give their dog a hug today.  They will love you all the more and you will feel a million times better for it.

These Boots are made for Walkin’

Hello everyone.  This is Bella’s mom, Sheree, with a report on how Bella is getting around these days.  I think you may all be aware that I bought Bella some Skyliner Boots from Tripawds.com because she was having problems getting around on the tile and wood floors in our house.  I am so happy to report that Bella is lovin’ her boots.  I was finally able to pick up all the runner materials I had all over the house for her walk on and she now tippy toes all over the house in her cute little boots and is loving her freedom.  Ummm, and so am I!  We put them on first thing in the morning and she walks, runs, and plays outside in them all day and then we take them off at night at bedtime.  Thanks Jerry for recommending the boots for her and for making her mom, that’s me, so very happy.

By the way, Bella’s toe is doing very well and is almost healed.  She’s back to walking and running around the yard with no problems at all.  She’s doing so well.

Thanks to all Bella’s friends who posted comments and well wishes.  We love you all!

Three legs and one broken toe

Hello everyone.  You know when you have things happen that just kind get you down and you think just when you make a few steps forward you fall back another 1 or 2.  Well, that would be Bella today.  She has been lovin her new boots, getting along great with them and then yesterday, her pawrent dad didn’t put her boots back on before calling into the house and in her hurried manner because she fears the floors, she hooked her toe, on her one back leg of course, on the door threshold and broke her toe.  Poor thing would not walk but a few steps all last evening and so off to the vet we went this morning.  Sure enough she does have a broken toe and is on some pain meds for 5 days while the toe mends itself.  Her boot has to stay on her back foot at all times during her recovery so that she doesn’t catch it on anything else.  So, poor sweetie pie, one step forward and two steps backward.  Life is still good though and it’s only a toe and not something more serious.  I thought I was going to be shopping for a Walkin Wheels wheelchair for her way before I was expecting it.  Okay, that’s Bella’s latest challenge, but all will be fine.  Happy day to everyone.

Bella’s mom, Sheree

Hey everyone.  As most you of might have guessed, Bella has been having some trouble with the hardwood and tile floors in our house.  When she first came to live with us I put carpet runner pads all over the house making little paths for her to go from room to room.  If I hadn’t she’d still be laying on her bed in the sunroom.  She is petrified to walk on the floors.  She did make her way around on the runner pads but even those made her fearful.  She has been the most comfortable once she reaches the bedroom where there is carpeting.  But she has been hesitant to even step over 6″ of wood floor to get from the bedroom to the carpet runner in the hall.  I have felt so badly for her and it has stressed me out a lot.  With all that said, I ordered Bella some Skyliner Boots from the tripawds.com site and they arrived this past Saturday.  While it took her a while to actually get up the nerve to get up and walk in them, she finally did and I have to say it was pretty funny.  She raised her feet in a high prance all around the house and just didn’t know what to do about those pesky things on her feet.  Finally she settled down and began to walk normally.  She is doing much better on the floors and I realize it will still take her some time to get completely comfortable but she is doing much better.  I’m just not sure how long at a time I should keep them on her.  I take them off when she goes outside so that she can run free and uninhibited but then I have to put them back on to come inside the house and leave them on so she can move about inside where she wants to go.  Even though I think I still like the boots better than she does at least she isn’t trying to remove them and she is walking around in them.  I think eventually she will be just fine in them and I can stop worrying about her getting around.  Thank you tripawds.com for being a wonderful source for us fretting tripawd pawrents.  That’s all for now from Bella and me and she and I both still believe that she has “A Life Worth Living”.  She is my angel.  Happy wishes to all our friends.

Bella’s Day at the Park

Hello everyone.  I’m Sheree, Bella’s mom.  Yesterday was Bella’s first day at the dog park.  I wasn’t expecting that there would be so many dogs there and upon arriving I nearly changed my mind worrying that Bella might be run over by the other enthusiastic pooches all having four legs.  But I sucked it up and let her loose and I am so very glad that I did.  She ran and fell and ran and fell and ran and fell with just as much enthusiasm as the rest of the pups and had a great time.  She played with a Mastif, a Greyhound, a Great Dane, a German Shepherd, and other smaller varities of pups and didn’t mind if they were the largest or the smallest because to her they were all new friends.  The park was excellent!  The grounds were clean, the space was quite large, there were hoses for cleaning up, dog bowls for water and 4 small and large plastic kids pools for cooling off.  She was completely exhausted when we left and spent the rest of the day snozing and dreaming, I”m sure, of the wonderful time she had.  I promised to take her to the dog park every Sunday morning and I’m sure that in no time flat she will learn that when I say, “Bella, it’s time for the park!” that she will be packed and ready to go in record time.  She’s such an angel dog.
